On February 25, the Board of Directors of the Spanish Network of Intelligent Cities (RECI), formed by the mayors of the 25 founding municipalities and held today at Sabadell, has approved the addition of two new cities that have applied to join: Jaén and Santa Cruz de Tenerife. With them, RECI passes consist of 62 municipalities. It has also been granted the status of “town friend” Galapagar (Madrid), Puerto Lumbreras (Murcia) and Huercal-Overa (Almeria), all with less than 50,000 inhabitants.

This step is very important to maintain existing smart initiatives and to promote new technological developments in collaboration with the different working groups of the RECI, relating to social innovation, energy, environment, infrastructure and livability, urban mobility, Government, business and economics.
In the next days, it will be released a system of “incentivized electro mobility” that includes a patented charging device by the University of Jaén, which aims to boost the economy by promoting electric vehicle.
